JUBILEE!

So I’m sure wherever you are reading this from in the world right now, you’ll be more than aware of the Queen’s 60th Jubilee celebrations that have been taking place over the last couple of days. If you’re anywhere in Great Britain right now, then frankly it would be quite impossible for you to have missed the miles of bunting, shops going crazy with British themed items (lucky for me, a huge variety of ‘Keep Calm’ inspired things), and perhaps the most important – tea and cakes. At a street-party, of course.

Due to the ever-changing North-of-Scotland weather, I wasn’t really thinking about a street-party being an option, however a good friend of mine’s mum decided to organise one in the local village! Over the last few weeks I helped him make a LOT of bunting (which I thought I had taken photos of, but obviously haven’t) and offered to bake some ‘jubilee inspired’ cakes for the event!

I bought icing pens in preparation of decorating the cakes with little Union Jack flags, however when it actually came to decorating them (with the help of my two friends!) we quickly realised it was going to be near impossible to draw them on…why do we have to have such a fiddly flag!?

But here are the results of nearly three hours of baking, 16 ounzes of sugar, butter and flour, 8 eggs and a LOT of icing:

Yum yum yum 🙂 As you can see, we started to give up towards the end and just cover them with stars and flowers and patterns! 😛

Unfortunately I’ll be missing the street party tomorrow because I’ll be at work…was hoping to get lots of Jubilee photos! 😦

But I hope you’re all enjoying your Jubilee celebrations from wherever you are in the world! 🙂
